Michael Shaw has a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and is licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor. He is recognized as a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors. He is trained in the use of a variety of play therapy counseling modalities and is currently working toward obtaining his certification as a registered play therapist by the Association for Play Therapy. He has been working in the counseling field since 2008. Mr. Shaw completed his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science at Dallas Baptist University in 2009 and his Master of Science in Counseling Psychology at Texas A&M-Central Texas in 2011. His experience includes working with children, foster care families and adoption related services. Prior to his current professional career he worked in law enforcement, he was a business owner and spent several years working with an international non-profit child advocacy organization. He also served in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge.
Michael was trained and formerly certified as a Mental Health specialist and an Equine Specialist by the Equine Assisted Guidance And Learning Association (EAGALA) to partner with horses in a variety of settings. Michael believes the use of horses as a tool in counseling and learning has an incredible and long lasting positive impact on clients.
